NEWS:

Animal Humane New Mexico
Animal Humane opened a new Westside Adoption and Training Center 10700 Corrales Road north of Alameda. It is open from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. seven days a week. This location will be for adoptions only. There won't be any intakes here. Adoption fees range from $50-$135 which includes spay/neuter, shots, microchip and licenses. If an animal is adopted from Animal Humane, the training classes cost $75 for six classes. If the animal isn't adopted from Animal Humane, the cost of the six classes is $100. Dogs older than 6 months will have gone through behavior and personality testing. The phone number is 505-890-PETZ.

The main campus of Animal Humane New Mexico and the adoption center at 9132 Montgomery NE have "animal outfitters" stores where food and supplies are sold. At the Corrales store, Wags and Whiskers will give a 15% discount to new adopters for food and pet supplies.

ALBUQUERQUE ANIMAL WELFARE
The Eastside shelter, 8920 Lomas Blvd. NE, has re-opened the cattery. It now features two different units designed to improve disease prevention and animal care.

Animal Field Officers will now be taking cats found within the eastside boundaries to the Eastside shelter. If you have lost a cat, and live within the eastside boundaries, check at the Eastside shelter first. To learn where the boundaries are call (505) 768-1975.

FARMINGTON
Due to the economy, the Farmington City Council didn't budget any money to fund the proposed regional animal shelter during the next fiscal year, according to Steve Lynn in The Daily Times (MCT). Officials say it is still a priority but people wonder. The regional shelter would serve Farmington and San Juan County.

The new shelter would double the size of the Farmington Animal Shelter. City officials say the current shelter is too small and animals can't be kept very long. Due to lack of space most animals brought to the shelter are killed. Money has been spent to design the new shelter and buy land for it.

Funds raised for the new shelter through fundraising efforts are in an account waiting for the shelter plans to advance. The Pet Project, the local group heading the fundraising, has a goal of raising $1.5 million for the new regional shelter.

If you are interested in helping with this project, contact: The Pet Project at the City of Farmington Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Affairs Department, 901 Fairgrounds Road, Farmington, NM 87401, (505) 599-1428.
