$20,000 grant. The Animal Rescue Site is hosting a special challenge for eligible rescue groups. Grand prize is a $20,000 grant. They will award many other grants to groups with the most votes as well - a total of $100,000 in grants. You can vote every day through July 26, 2009. Every time you vote or tell a friend to vote, you're making a difference! Vote for us at and we could win $20,000 to help pets in need. Click on the purple tab on the right hand side of the page that says "Shelter Challenge", type in ACAT and select NM then vote! You can vote several times a day if you exit Internet Explorer and then go back in.

July 25 - Yard Sale Another fabulous A.C.A.T. yard sale. We are collecting items and we need your help! Please contact us at 505-323-2228 or to arrange drop offs. We need lots of stuff to sell, so call us first.

August 22 - Annual Raffle Grand prize is 2 round-trip tickets from Southwest Airlines anywhere they fly (valued at $800). There will be several other prizes available too! Tickets are $2 each or 6 for $10. You can get them online ( or at our adoption sites. Make copies and sell them to your friends, neighbors, family, co-workers, etc. The drawing will be Aug. 22nd.

Sponsor-A-Pet: If you can't adopt a cat or cannot volunteer with A.C.A.T., you can sponsor one of our cats. Go to and click on the cat you'd like to sponsor. It will take you to the pet profile. Then click on the sponsor me tab.

Coins for Cats: Our goal: One million coins from Jan. 1, 2009 through Jan. 1, 2010. Help us reach our goal by donating your coins. They will help with medical needs, spaying/neutering, rescuing abused/abandoned cats, fostering and finding the right home for our rescued kitties. Drop off your change at our adoption clinics. We will even give you a tax deductible donation receipt. For more info on these programs, visit

Bernco Blitz
Animal Humane launches Bernco Blitz, a new program to reduce the unwanted cat population in Albuquerque by spaying an additional 2,500 cats. Animal Humane and eight veterinary clinics will spay female cats at low cost. The spay price varies depending on household income. This program concentrates on owned cats rather than feral cats. Animal Humane has another program for spaying ferals. Female kittens between 4 and 6 months of age and weighing at least two pounds will be spayed for free. Submissions are needed of pet stories, poems and memorial dedications for a new book by Ann Rupprecht. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to Animal Humane. Peggy Weigle, Executive Director of Animal Humane I New Mexico. She received the Governor's Award for Outstanding New Mexico Women. She was one of 20 selected. She also was honored by New Mexico Business Weekly as a 2009 "Woman of Influence."

Dr. Michael Neal of Animal Humane received the "Real Hero Award" from the Mid-Rio Grande Chapter of the American Red Cross. Last year, Dr. Neal and his team spayed and neutered an unbelievable 8,000 dogs and cats, including over 400 feral cats

Annual Art Show Fundraiser

It will be a retrospective of works by the artists who have shown at Kindred Spirits and generously contributed to our summer fundraisers since 2003. Featured artists will be: Olga Deulofeu, Trish Condit, Carole Olson, and Ruth Tatter. This is a wonderful collection of vibrant and colorful depictions of the animals and life at Kindred Spirits.
